DONALD TRUMP has accused former US President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden of spying on his administration.
The US president said if he were to do a similar act then he would face “50 years for treason.” Fox News host Chris Wallace grilled Mr. Trump on his response to the coronavirus pandemic.
He played clips of the president previously saying the virus would soon disappear.
In reply, Mr. Trump said he would “be right eventually” about COVID-19 going away.
At the weekend, America reached 140,000 confirmed deaths due to the coronavirus.
During the interview, Mr. Trump also spoke about defending the Confederate flag.
He told Mr. Wallace the flag was not a symbol of racism but a way for people to honor the South.
Mr. Trump decided to compare his mental fitness to his presidential competitor Mr. Biden.
He said Mr. Biden cannot “string two sentences” together.
Mr. Trump also claimed Mr. Biden would not perform as well on a cognitive test.
Mr. Wallace responded by saying the questions on the test Mr. Trump had previously taken were not hard.
Mr. Trump said: “It’s all misrepresentation.
“Because, yes, the first few questions are easy, but I’ll bet you couldn’t even answer the last five questions.”
This comes after protests in Portland heightened following Mr. Trump’s decision to send federal agents to the area to calm the violence.
Demonstrators have been taking to the streets in Portland since the killing of George Floyd to protest against police brutality.
Portland’s mayor criticized the move as “a direct threat to democracy.”
Taking to Twitter, Mr. Trump defended his administration by saying they were working to help Portland.
He wrote: “We must protect federal property and our people.
“These were not merely protesters, these are the real deal.”
National Democratic leaders and local lawmakers have called for the removal of the militarised federal agents from Portland.
Ted Wheeler, mayor of Portland, said on Sunday: “Their presence here is actually leading to more violence and more vandalism.
“And it’s not helping the situation at all. They’re not wanted here.
“The tactics that the Trump administration is using on the streets of Portland are abhorrent.”
Mr. Wheeler warned this could be replicated in other cities across the country.
